Road trip to Palm Beach

If you enjoy coastal walks, surfing, paddle boarding, fishing and incredible scenery then Palm Beach, north of Sydney is an excellent place to visit. Just an hour’s drive from the centre of Sydney, Palm Beach is not only home to the city’s most northerly stretch of beach but known for the location of Australia’s favourite TV show – Home and Away. Visit the famous café, The Boathouse, on the Pittwater and go stand up paddle boarding after. Follow a scenic trail to the historic Barrenjoey Lighthouse and experience incredible views. It’s the perfect Sunday afternoon leisure activity.

Sydney Harbour events

One of the best and most romantic things to do in Sydney is to spend time on the harbour. This gorgeous meandering waterway is a scenic playground for Sydneysiders. The harbour hosts national parks, historic sites and hundreds of kilometers of shoreline. Experience the harbour by a hop on hop off cruise. These will take you through the harbour and various iconic stops along the way such as Darling Harbour, Luna Park, Circular Quay, Taronga Zoo. Complete the Royal National Park coastal walk

The Royal National Park is Sydney’s oldest national park and is a treat for anyone who visits. It offers a coastal walk stretching from Bundeena to Otford. The full walk is 26 km and it is recommended to complete it over 2 days. Take the train from the city to Cronulla Station. From there you can catch the ferry to Bundeena. On the coastal walk, you will experience the Jibbon Aboriginal carvings, can swim with a waterfall at Wattamolla, experience Wedding Cake Rock and Marley Beach, waterfalls spilling into the ocean, Eagle Rock, Garie Beach, the Figure Eight Pools, the rainforest, and sweeping views of Wollongong and the south coast. There are campsites to stay in overnight but must be booked in advance. From Otford, you can catch the train back to the city.

Whale watching

One of the most magical aspects of Australia’s east coast is whale season. From May to November, you can see the whales make their way up north from Antarctica to Queensland and then back down south again. Sometimes you can even see the whales from the beach. Popular viewpoints to see the whales for free include the headlands such as North Head in Manly or along the Coastal Walk of the Royal National Park. Look out for the infamous white whale named Migaloo; the locals get excited about who can spot this rare whale first!
